A really nice family is relocating their large family. They decided to wait until they moved out before they put it on the market. When you have several young children, this is a great option if it’s possible. It will be less stressful than trying to keep everything “show ready”.
They asked me to stage their home so that it would help buyers understand the open layout of the main rooms. This is a great use of staging. In an open-concept floor plan it can be confusing to buyers if they see it empty. They don’t get a sense of scale and find it difficult to picture how they would use the space.
I staged the living room/family room, kitchen, office and master bedroom. I chose furniture that felt family friendly and in keeping with the casual style of this updated farmhouse.
I created a living room arrangement on one side of the fireplace. I kept it minimal so that people can picture their own furniture in the space.
I established a cozy, informal space within the room where a family can imagine themselves watching television and relaxing.
This small room off the entry was originally the “piano room” when this home was built at the turn of the century. It was empty and lacked function so I turned it into a sunny home office.
The kitchen has part of the new addition at the back of the house. It is a large sunny corner of the house and the only dining area. I wanted to show off the size of the space and use furniture that was less casual so people can imagine eating family meals there as well as hosting more formal meals around the holidays.
The master bedroom is also in the new addition on the second floor. In this space I wanted to establish scale so I placed a queen sized bed and a dresser to illustrate for buyers how their own furniture would work in the room.
The staging has allowed this empty home to feel family friendly and welcoming. By choosing to move out prior to selling their home, the sellers have reduced their daily stress and enabled the house to shine.
